Protect our Heritage

Proposed changes to the Auckland Unitary Plan seek to recognise the values of 49 historic heritage places, thereby making them subject to the provisions of the Historic Heritage Overlay. Among these our own former Avondale Post Office.

Go to this link to submit your support to this Proposed Plan change. The text you could submit is:

“I write in support of the PROPOSED PLAN CHANGE 7 (PC7) Additions to Schedule 14 Historic Heritage Schedule. I support all buildings mentioned in this document to be added to Schedule 14 Historic Heritage with specific support for the former Avondale Post Office, ID 02799, 1862 Great North Road, Avondale”

This link will give you more information on the building/s that protection is sought for.

Avondale High Level Project Plan by Panuku

Panuku, an Auckland Council town centre regeneration agency,  has purchased the Old 3 Guys site. This land is key to the development of our town centre. Read more here.

Panuku has a plan for the regeneration of Avondale Town Centre. Panuku says that they will consult and work in partnership with the local community. Avondale Community Action, alongside other residents, will stay in dialog with Panuku to ensure that the consultation is happening on a level that is engaging to our community. Little Rosebank Market

ACA has been doing community consultation on the feasibility of a Little Rosebank Market. The Rosebank area of Avondale is geographically separated from the town centre. Apart from a couple of dairies there are no shops within biking or walking distance where people can get their daily needs. We have consulted with the community during the Sirens and Sounds event and have talked to residents at Athletic events in November and December.

Residents welcome the idea of a weekly market and say they would support it. Most people want to be able to do their food shopping locally. Other comments where that it should be a place to meet and affordable.

Avondale Christmas Market 2017

3rd year the Avondale Christmas market took place. We had a few new stall holders but the bulk of the stall holders have been with us from the 1st year. They like the vibe of the event with the music, food stalls and this year a few kids stalls.

An estimated 300 people came through. Where previous year we only had food stalls in the carpark, this year we added a long community dining table which enlivened this part of the community centre more. The gift stalls were indoors and the inner court yard was taken over by Gelato, Candy floss, Live music and lotsa people cruising and chillin’ on their picnic mats. Kids lining up for a free face paint and running off their candy floss / Gelato sugar intake. 😉
